Will I be able to get a contact lens prescription with a small stye on the outside of my eyelid?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

It’s by my eyelash and really small. Will I be able to get a prescription for lenses at least?

No its not possible, it might aggravate the sty. Just let it heal before wearing the contacts. In the meantime, wear glasses until the sty is healed.

What contact lens prescription number is legally blind?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

I’ve always wondered…you know the number on your prescription for contact lenses?? What counts as legally blind??

The severity of your prescription doesn’t have anything to do with whether you are legally blind or not. In the state of Oklahoma, legal blindness is defined as being unable to see better than 20/50 in the best eye with BEST CORRECTION. That means you could be EXTREMELY farsighted or nearsighted and as long as you are able to see better than 20/50 while wearing either eyeglasses or contact lenses then you would not be considered legally blind. The only exception to this would be if an individual had an eye disease that dramatically restricted their peripheral vision. In this situation the patient may have better than 20/50 central visual acuity but if they have restricted peripheral vision they could be considered to be legally blind. Each state sets its own standards as to what amount of acuity loss is necessary to be considered legally blind.

Can I get Acuvue 2 Color Opaques with my Acuvue 2 contact lens prescription?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

I got a prescription for Acuvue 2 contact lenses. My optometrist said that I can get Freshlook Radiance or Dimensions for color, though I’ve found that neither of those are to my satisfaction. I do, however, like my current Acuvue 2 contact lenses and found out that they produce these in color as well. My question is simply whether or not I can use my regular Acuvue 2 prescription to buy their “Color Opaques”.
As they are made by the same people then your optician should be happy enough to use the same prescription for the colored lenses too. If you are ordering your lenses online, then they will need to verify your prescription with your optician first, so just ring up in advance to make sure that they are happy to do this for you

What measurements should be on my contact lens prescription?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

I got a prescription from my doctor, but they wouldn’t sell me the contacts at the store because it didn’t give enough information. I’m going back to my doctor so he can put in everything, I know he should know this things, but as he didn’t write them the first time, i want to make sure that he puts in everything that needs to be there.
Thanks!

Well if the doctor did not do a contact lens fitting session with you then they will not have the "measurements" written down. And I honestly think it is best that no measurements are written down. People should not do their own contact lens selection and fitting. If you want contact lenses you need to be examined for that particular purpose to see if there are any contraindications for contact lens wear. The eye care professional will pick contact lenses best suited to you. After they choose the appropriate lens they will check the fit and the visual acuity you achieve with the lenses. If they do not fit properly you may have compromised visual acuity or they could cause harm to your eyes. They also train you on the appropriate wear and care of contact lenses. Even if you did have the measurements… all contact lenses fit differently and they must be fit by an eye care professional. There is a risk of harm if your contact lenses are not fit by a qualified professional. Do not forget contact lenses are a medical device and improper care, wear or fit could have detrimental consequences. Ask your doctor for a contact lens fitting…. or ask your doctor for a copy of your prescription and get the fitting done by any other qualified professional.
Hope that helps a bit :)

Is the contact lens prescription on the side of the box?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

Hey, I’ve run out of contacts and apparently lost my prescription sheet as well. Is the information on the side of the box (it says stuff like PWR – 1.50 and something about BC and DIA) the same thing as the prescription?

Yes, the 1.50 is your prescription for your eye (whichever one it was: left/right)
If I were you, I would bring in the boxes when you get new contacts.

How much does it cost to get a new contact lens prescription?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

I no longer have vision insurance, but my prescription has run out and I need to buy some more contacts. About how much should I expect to pay in order to get a new prescription? I would imagine it would be pretty cheap, since its a short and routine process. I remember paying $50 dollars when I had insurance, but about how much should I expect to pay without insurance? Just the prescription, not the actual lenses themselves.

depending on where you go…with the contact lens "fitting fee"…probably somewhere between about $80 – $150

our office is $128

How strong can a contact lens prescription g?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

How strong of a prescription can contact lenses go up to?
oops I mean "go"

A quick look at Tyler’s Quarterly, the professional’s source of information about contacts found powers from +20 to -30 in soft lenses. You may be able to get rigid lenses in stronger powers.

How to read contact lens prescription?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

My contact lens prescription says that my right eye is 4.25 and left eye 3.25, I want to order contact lenses online and the website said they only have -4.25 and -3.25 instock, so is -4.25 the same as 4.25 and -3.25 the same as 3.25??

there are so many factors here, I am wondering what it is that you are looking at. +and – are both possibilities here, and you should also have other measurements on there as well.

why is my glasses prescription stronger than my contact lens prescription?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

ok, so my glasses are -1 in both eyes and my contact lens is -.75 in both eyes. i got my glasses at the end of the school year from vision works. Now i decided to get contacts to wear vision correction full time and i found out my contacts are less than my glasses. Why would my contacts not be as strong?
To answer your question simply? It’s because the contact lenses are physically on your eyes. So your prescription doesn’t need to be as strong as specs which sit on your nose and are a little distance away from your eyes. Hope this helps

Is it possible to get contact lens for a high prescription (severe myopia)?

Published by admin under prescription contact lens

I have a prescription of -7.25 for both eyes and I"m wondering if such a high prescription is available in contact lens? What’s the highest prescription contacts can go up to?

This is an easy power to put in contact lenses. If your glasses power is -7.25 sphere in both eyes, most people will find the vision is better in contact lenses than in glasses. Also, the contact powers will probably be -6.50. This is due to the optics of contact lenses versus glasses.
Contact lenses can be custom made into very large powers, even over -20 diopters!
